In a bid to foster practical skills and empower its students in the field of modern journalism, the Institute of Business Management and Journalism (IBM & J) Yendi Center (An auxiliary of Kumasi and Tamale Centers) recently organized an intensive photography and videography training session for its students in Tamale.

Accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), IBM & J offers academic programmes, including a Diploma in Journalism and Media Studies and an HND in Communication.

During the week-long training, students delved into a range of valuable skills, encompassing project work, research methodologies, program development, and script writing. Others are program hosting, news writing, broadcasting, interview techniques, camera handling, photography, videography, and editing.

The students were also taught how to create impactful slideshows and presentations.

Expressing their gratitude, some of the students shared their newfound enthusiasm and empowerment with Hawk News GH. Rahina Rahaman, a student journalist, revealed that the training has impacted and transformed her since she had no prior knowledge of camera handling to gaining confidence and ability in managing both photo and video shoots.

She enthusiastically declared, “I will practice it in my daily life after leaving here.”

Amidu Abukari, a student and social media enthusiast, acknowledged the challenges he faced in capturing videos and photos before the program. Post-training, he confidently asserted his improved skills, stating, “This training has given me new ideas, and it will help me a lot in my social media platform and pages.”

Hawabu Abubakari, a level 200 student, emphasized the significant impact of the training on their lives. She highlighted that her newfound camera skills would enable her to work as a competent camerawoman in any organizational setting.

“This training has not only equipped us with practical skills but also instilled confidence in our ability to contribute effectively to our future endeavors,” Abubakar said.
